CityPickle is a dynamic and rapidly growing sport and lifestyle brand based in New York City. Our mission is to spread the joy of pickleball and put a paddle in the hand of every urban dweller. We specialize in operating both permanent, indoor pickleball clubs as well as high-profile, seasonal activations.

CityPickle Long Island City General Manager

Position Overview:

The General Manager, Long Island City will function as the CEO of this location, responsible for leading, overseeing and managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of CityPickle's Long Island City Club. This includes the daily operations of pickleball, a full bar and restaurant, and Pro Shop. With an emphasis on hospitality, the general manager of CityPickle LIC will bring bright energy, positivity, leadership, and business savvy to work every day. The General Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Club Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all daily operations with the goal of providing an excellent customer experience for all guests.
  • Hire, manage, train, motivate, schedule and evaluate staff - Player Relations, Bartenders, Cooks, and On-Site Event Coordinators. Ensure productivity, efficiency, and a positive work environment.
  • Conduct or maintain market research on competitive pickleball offerings in the New York City area and inform optimal programming and pricing.
  • Form and maintain strategic relationships with neighbourhood organizations such as Long Island City Partnership, local businesses, and existing/potential partners. Identify business opportunities and implement them to generate new business and enhance revenue.
  • Coordinate with CityPickle's Events team to smoothly execute the operational details of all events. Work with the Food & Beverage staff and Coaching staff to ensure that all events run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Work closely with the F&B Operations Director to ensure the highest level of quality in the Food and Beverage program.
  • Ensure that all F&B orders are placed as needed and in a timely manner, whether it be done by on-site management, the F&B Operations Director, or another staff member.
  • Work closely with Retail to track inventory, drive sales, and collaborate with team members on new merchandise selections and orders. Regularly produce retail reports to enable data driven retail decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing to determine and execute marketing strategy for the Club. This includes partnering with Marketing on a weekly newsletter and social media.
  • Be the primary liaison with club members which includes owning the monthly member newsletter.
  • Proactively track revenue and control expenses to meet financial targets as reflected in the P&L.
  • Help guide monthly, quarterly and annual budgeting and re-forecasting.
  • Work collaboratively with Accounting and Finance to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Use data from HubSpot to drive utilization, guide business decisions, and track performance against selected metrics.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to implement HR policies and ensure the location is in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Oversee all facilities issues including maintenance, repairs, trash removal, cleaning, and pest control. Establish and maintain relationships with vendors as needed.
  • Create and implement policies that improve operational efficiency and clarity.
  • Represent CityPickle in a manner consistent with its brand.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (7+ years) in an operations management role, ideally within sports, entertainment, or hospitality industries, with progressive levels of responsibility.
  • Experience (3+ years) working in a managerial role in the Food & Beverage industry is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing role, managing large teams, and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.
