Number of Hours/FTE: 24 hours weekly/0.6 FTE

Reports To:   EMS Operations Manager

SUMMARY

Avel eCare is seeking dedicated Paramedics to join our growing team and provide exceptional patient care. The Avel eCare Emergency Services Line requires all paramedics to practice at a competent level of paramedic care and demonstrate a competent and professional level of behavior in their role as a paramedic. The South Dakota Department of Health ALS scope and standards of practice are exemplified within the position description. The paramedic is responsible for utilizing the paramedic process to provide care for the patient. They assume responsibility and accountability for their individual actions and outcomes of patient care delivered on his/her shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   

  1. Responsibility: Primary clinician for EMS encounters. Serves in crisis role for hospital emergency encounters. 
  2. Assessment: Collects patient health data. 
  3. Diagnosis: Analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses/problem focus. 
  4. Outcome Identification: Identifies expected outcomes/goals individualized to the patient. 
  5. Planning: Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. 
  6. Implementation: Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care.
  7. Evaluation: Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes. 
  8. Quality of Care: Systemically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. 
  9. Performance Appraisal: Evaluates his/her own paramedic practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations. 
  10. Education: Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice. 
  11. Collegiality: Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others. 
  12. Ethics: Decisions and actions on behalf of clients are determined in a manner consistent with the NREMT Code of Conduct. 
  13. Collaboration: Collaborates with the patient, significant others and health care providers in providing patient care. 
  14. Research: Utilizes research/evidence-based findings in practice if appropriate. 
  15. Resource Utilization: Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care. 
  16. Leadership: The paramedic provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. 
  17. Technology: Knowledge and skills sufficient to integrate the use of health care technology and/or information management systems into the provision of nursing care. 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: The individual must be able to work the hours specified above. REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate from an accredited paramedic program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved paramedic program is required. 
  • 3-5 years EMS experience required.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Licensed as a paramedic with an unrestricted license in a compact member state is required. 
  • Paramedic licensure required within the states that Emergency - Clinical is providing service, within 120 days of hire. 
  • Certification in specialty preferred. 
  • Membership in a professional organization preferred. 
  • Completion of state specific certification/education within the initial and renewal time periods is required.
