Patient Advocate Representative

Location: On-site

Position Overview

We are seeking a Patient Advocate Representative to join our team. This role serves as a critical liaison between patients and the billing department, assisting with account balances, billing questions, payment arrangements, and account resolution. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, experience navigating healthcare billing systems, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound and outbound patient communications regarding account balances, billing concerns, and payment arrangements.
  • Respond to patient emails and messages through the EMR system.
  • Educate patients on billing processes, statements, and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Investigate account discrepancies, including duplicate payments, posting errors, and account corrections.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Receivable (A/R) teams to facilitate necessary account adjustments.
  • Negotiate balances and assist patients with resolving billing concerns and grievances.
  • Monitor high-balance and delinquent accounts, proactively contacting patients or responsible parties to secure payment arrangements.
  • Maintain productivity standards, including daily call volume goals and project tracking requirements.
  • Complete correction worksheets and communicate updates to patients or responsible parties as needed.
  • Manage multiple systems simultaneously and perform document review, printing, and processing tasks.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve account and billing issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policies.
  • Achieve and maintain satisfactory quality and audit scores through attention to detail and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Direct experience using Net Health and/or NextGen EMR systems (current experience or within the last 7 years).
  • Minimum 1+ year of customer service experience in a healthcare, medical billing, or patient services environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and account resolution skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Comfortable using EMR systems, clearinghouse platforms, and Zoom.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
