St. John’s Episcopal School (SJES) is an independent, coeducational Episcopal school serving up to 500 students in pre-k 3 through eighth grade. Position Purpose

The armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a visible and vigilant presence on campus, responding to security incidents, and proactively ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors. This role requires sound judgment, discretion, and a commitment to upholding the values and mission of the School.

Key Accountabilities

• Patrol School grounds and monitor entrances, exits, and common areas

• Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, and suspicious activity

• Maintain a calm and authoritative presence during high-stress situations

• Collaborate with School administrators and local law enforcement as needed

• Monitor surveillance systems and access control points

• Enforce School policies and procedures related to safety and security

• Provide support during School events, drills, and emergency preparedness exercises

• Complete detailed incident reports and maintain accurate security logs.

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

• High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate or bachelor’s degree (preferred)

• Valid state-issued law enforcement certification

• Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement service

• Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to remain composed and professional in high-pressure situations

• Must pass a comprehensive background check

Preferred Attributes

• Experience working in a school or educational environment

• Familiarity with child protection and school safety protocols

• Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus
